Al jaren zet het dames rock koor Pocket Rock!t zich in voor goede doelen. Ze gaan daarbij zelfs over de grens. Sinds 2014 treden ze elk jaar op in Lommel om te helpen bij het inzamelen van geld voor de kankerstichting. De voorbereidingen hiervan zijn vastgelegd in een documentaire.

Voor dirigente en oprichtster Franki Münninghoff was het een hele eer dat haar koor werd gevraagd door de organisatie van Levensloop in Lommel om de sluitingsceremonie te doen. "Tijdens de voorbereidingen voor het evenement kwamen we er achter dat eigenlijk ieder koorlid wel te maken heeft gehad met kanker. Direct of indirect" aldus Franki. Dit was aanleiding voor documentairemaker Michiel Eskens om zich niet alleen te richten op de voorbereidingen, maar ook een drietal persoonlijke verhalen te belichten.

Voor alle 3 de karakters is het koor een positieve factor in het leven. De documentaire neemt je mee in een estafettevorm door de persoonlijke ervaringen van Wendy, Anouk en Bert omtrent de ziekte kanker. Deze donkere dalen van ervaringen met de ziekte worden afgewisseld met de verlichting die het koor in hun leven brengt, waarbij het koor fungeert als lijm tussen de persoonlijke verhaallijnen.

Documentary SING FOR LIFE

Pocket Rock!t, the ladies-only, rock choir from Drunen have been involved in charity work for a number of years. Every year since 2014, they have even crossed international borders to perform in Lommel to raise money for the Belgian Cancer foundation. The preparations for this have been recorded in a documentary.

For director, Franki Münninghoff, it was an honour that her choir was asked by the Levensloop organisation, to perform at the closing ceremony. "During the preparations for the event we discovered that almost every choir member had some connection to cancer, either directly or indirectly" said Franki. This triggered the film-maker, Michiel Eskens to tell not only the story of the preparations, but also to showcase three personal stories during the film.

The choir is a positive factor in the lives of the three characters. The film portrays the stories of Wendy, Anouk and Bert in a series of clips, discussing the subject of cancer based on their personal experiences.  The sombre and difficult moments with the disease are counterbalanced by the enjoyment that the choir provides in their lives. The choir serves as a sort of glue, holding the storylines together.
